Baptism is an outward statement of an inner belief and commitment

Baptism and Communion, the two ordinances of the Baptist Church, happen on the 4th Sunday at Pleasant Hope.  Our Baptism Service begins at 10:30AM and Communion takes place at the conclusion of morning worship.

Baptism is an outward statement of an inner belief and commitment to live a life pleasing in the sight of the God.  There is no power in the water!  However, it symbolizes a desire for purification and a descent into and resurrection out of the grave.  On the day of baptism, those being baptized are provided with a towel, baptism robe, and personal assistance by our Deacons/Deaconess (if necessary).  Pastor Brown and one of the Deacons enter the room-temperature water first, guide the new Believer into the water next, and then gently take him or her underwater, quickly bringing them back up again.

Communion is a sacred rite which remembers the life, legacy, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  It’s a celebration of God’s vindication of Jesus which was more powerful than death.  We remember this triumph by sharing together in eating a small bread wafer which symbolizes the body of Jesus and drinking a small cup of grape juice which symbolizes the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross at Calvary.  We invite all baptized Believers to take part in this sacred feast.
